What are the Best Fall and Winter Events on Kauai?

Hawaii is a dream vacation destination for many travelers, and Kauai is easily one of the most gorgeous Hawaiian Islands. The Garden Isle, as it’s often known, is full of breathtaking surroundings and plenty of nature, but you’ll also find superb food, welcoming locals, and a rich history you simply have to witness yourself.

There will be many activities for you and your family this holiday season on Kauai. You’ll get to do something a little different while experiencing the island’s culture firsthand.

There are plenty of things to do in Kauai any time of year, but fall and winter bring special events to the island. Here are a few things for you and your crew to experience this fall and winter!

Coconut Festival

The Coconut Festival is a celebration of—you guessed it—the coconut! At this festival, you’ll celebrate the importance of the coconut to Hawaii’s culture and learn how they use this fruit in their community. Of course, it’s always been a significant Hawaiian food source, but native Hawaiians have also used it to make housing, clothing, and much more.

The festival will be held on October 1st and 2nd at Kapa’a Beach Park. Some of the events taking place are craft-making, games, and contests, all using the coconut. There will also be entertainment of dancers, drummers, and hula. Finally, check out the unique art exhibitions with local artisans and food demonstrations by some of the local area’s best-known chefs.

Activities for the kiddos include a petting zoo, a kids’ stage, crafts, and inflatables to play with. You’ll have a blast and leave with a new appreciation for coconuts. This event is just one of the many exciting events in Kauai!

Kauai Chocolate and Coffee Festival

Another one of the many things to do in Kauai this fall is to attend the Kauai Chocolate and Coffee Festival. These two ingredients are also crucial to the agriculture of Hawaii. It wouldn’t be a proper Chocolate and Coffee Festival without tastings, but there will also be informative presentations, some workshops, and vendor booths with various products from all over.

The Hawai’i Tourism Authority sponsors this event through the Community Enrichment Program. You can rest assured that all proceeds are going to a great cause!

Poipu Food and Wine Festival

Hosted by the Poipu Beach foundation, the festival will highlight culinary achievements made by some of Hawaii’s most prominent chefs. It will also celebrate the diversity in culinary sources the island of Kauai offers. Wine pairings will accompany the food, and entertainment will also be provided.

This event will support the Kaua’i Community College (KCC) Culinary Arts Program by creating an opportunity for the students to get experience with seasoned chefs. Some of the proceeds will go toward a scholarship program provided by the school. So, while you’re tasting delicious food and wine, you’re also supporting students and their future. It’s a win-win!

New Year’s Eve Celebration

Bring in the New Year Poipu style! Poipu Beach Park hosts a family movie night at sunset on the beach. You’ll need your beach blankets and lawn chairs for this event. A family-friendly film will be selected and played on a large outdoor screen as the sun sets. Some of the island’s most popular food trucks will be there, so you’ll have plenty of treats to enjoy while you watch the movie.

After the movie, get ready for a fantastic firework show! This event is free to the public. The fireworks show starts at about 8:15 p.m. You can even finish off the night at a local Kauai brewery! The opportunities are endless!

Slack Key Festival

Get ready for the largest mainland Hawaiian music festival! The Slack Key Festival is a gathering like no other. Happening in Redondo Beach, California, The Slack Key Festival brings reverence to a traditional Hawaiian style of guitar-picking.

At the festival, you’ll be able to attend the live shows at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and see the many musicians there. There’s also an Island Marketplace that will be open on the day of the concert from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You’ll be able to learn about the history of this unique style of playing guitar and the influence that it has had on the Hawaiian culture.

If you’re able, you can purchase access to the VIP area, where you can participate in a meet-and-greet with some of the artists. There will also be food and prize giveaways. While in the area, you can check out Redondo Beach. This will be a cultural experience you’ll never forget!
