No matter what season you’re visiting, Poipu Beach Surf School is open and ready to teach you how to tackle the waves. This school provides lessons on the South Side of the island. It never has more than 8 people per class or 4 people per instructor, ensuring that you always get a personalized, one-on-one experience. You’re never left alone, so you know you’re always safe, and the experienced instructors here can help beginners, intermediates, or experts.
Most surf lessons here last 1.5 hours, though expert-level lessons are longer. Most classes are suitable for surfers of all ages, but Poipu Beach Surf School does offer specific lessons targeted toward kids if you’re traveling with little ones. Additionally, most lessons are group lessons. You may be in a group with another family; however, semi-private lessons for 2-3 people are also available. Basic surf lessons begin at just $75 per person for a budget-friendly experience.

If you’re staying on the North Shore of Kauai, you’ll be just a few minutes away from Hawaiian Surfing Adventures. Lessons are available both in the morning and early afternoon, allowing you to integrate this experience into your itinerary easily. The soft-top surfboards used for your lessons are ideal for all ages and skill levels.
The typical lesson with Hawaiian Surfing Adventures lasts 1.5 hours. During the first 30 minutes, you’ll learn from your instructor about how to position yourself on your surfboard, how to read the waves, and how to stay safe when you’re in the water. For the remainder of your lesson, you’ll be taken out into the water to learn the basic rules of surfing and try it out for yourself! Group lessons cost just $75 per person, and lessons are limited to 4 people per instructor.

Hawaiian Style Surfing
Another of the most popular surf schools in Poipu is Hawaiian Style Surfing, offering personalized surf lessons from the most talented and passionate local instructors. This school offers group, semi-private, and private surf lessons, offering an option for every age and skill level. Any of these options are ideal for beginners or those who already have a bit of experience. The group surf lesson is their most popular offering and costs $95 per person. These lessons put one instructor with 4 people, last 1.5 hours, and are available in the morning and afternoon.
Before you ever get in the water, you’ll spend some time on the land with your instructor. Here, they’ll give you a thorough safety briefing and give you all kinds of tips for staying safe and confident while you’re in the water. Then, you’ll dive in (pun intended) and will soon get to experience the thrill of riding a wave for the first time!

Kauai Beach Boys calls itself “Kauai’s ocean fun headquarters,” and we have to agree! Their surf lessons are just one way that they enjoy bringing visitors out into the breathtaking waters of the island. With surf lessons lasting 1.5 hours and available at three different times throughout the day, they give you plenty of chances to fit a lesson in between the other activities you’re enjoying on the island. Surfing lessons at this school are designed for guests ages 10 and up.
The staff at Kauai Beach Boys has been teaching lessons on Kalapaki Bay since 1983 and knows all the ins and outs of getting you on the board. You’ll learn how to paddle and balance like a pro and will be fully equipped with a board, leash, and rash guard. Their surfing lessons cost $89 per person, making them some of the most affordable lessons on the island.

Surf Into Yoga
As the name suggests, Surf Into Yoga offers so much more than just surfing lessons. Rochelle Ballard and her talented team will take you out to the stunning South Shore to learn ocean awareness, surfing techniques, and safety tips for your surfing experience.
Whether you’re surfing for the first time or want to learn some new tricks to add to your repertoire, Surf Into Yoga has you covered. Your 75-minute lesson will be packed with useful tips and practical advice to turn you into a better surfer. The standard Poipu Beach surf lessons start at $89 per person. You can also book a private, 90-minute surf lesson (with the potential option to add more time at the time of service) for $300 for up to 8 people.

Kauai Surf Lessons
Finally, on the breathtaking North Shore of Kauai, Kauai Surf Lessons is here to help you pick up this exciting new hobby. On the waters of Hanalei Bay, you’ll get to start learning how to surf or can improve your abilities if you’ve been surfing in the past. The expert instructors here know how to teach surfers of all ages, providing a totally customized experience for every guest. Kauai Surf Lessons offers private surf lessons for 1 ($160) or 2 ($170) people, as well as a private group and family lessons for 3 ($240) or 4 ($300) people.
