3 Best Kapaa Beaches to Visit on Kauai’s East Coast

Kauai has the most sand out of all the Hawaiian islands.

That means this is perhaps the most beautiful part of Hawaii, and the ideal spot for someone looking to sit back and relax with the sound of the waves. Because there are so many beaches to see and explore, we want to help you make the most of your getaway.

Here’s a guide to three of Kauai’s most beautiful beaches. All of them are along the eastern side of the island between Kapaa and Lihue just minutes from Waipouli Beach Resort, The Islander on the Beach, and other East Shore condo rentals, and each offers an unforgettable mix of crystal waters, sandy beaches, and fun activities.

Lydgate Beach Park

This is a spot the entire family can enjoy. Along its spacious sandy beach, you’ll find plenty of room to romp and recreate. The park includes covered pavilions, paved parking lots, showers, restrooms, a giant playground, and picnic tables. A lifeguard is on duty. Come early in the morning to avoid the crowds and prepare yourself for an unforgettable time.

Kealia Beach

This is also a family-friendly beach, It’s popular with surfers, so you can test the waters for yourself or simply watch others do so. It’s also a good spot for swimming. However, the beach is known for its rip currents, so check local weather conditions before diving in. If you’re a novice swimmer, then it’s best to stay within sight of the lifeguard tower. The north side of the beach faces a natural rock wall, which gives it pleasant, gentle waters.

Kealia Beach has a paved biking and walking trail that follows the oceanfront for several miles. For your convenience, you’ll find restrooms complete with showers. Following the bike path will lead you into Kapaa Town, which is worth exploring all on its own. The first Saturday of each month the city hosts a street festival with live music, local crafts, great food, and lots of things for the entire family to do.
