Summer is just around the corner and we couldn’t be more excited about it! Many families and couples travel to the Hawaiian Islands during the summer months. Are you coming to Kauai this summer and wondering what to do?
You can have fun exploring new parts of the island you may not have experienced yet! Here’s a blog that will guide you through things to do this summer on your vacation to Kauai!
Fortunately, Kauai is accessible enough to drive all the way to the west side and back in one day! We’ve laid out things to do on each side of the island!
East Side
If you are staying at Waipouli Beach Resort, Plantation Hale, Islander on the Beach, Kapaa Shore or the Wailua Riverside Hideaway you are in luck! There are all kinds of things to do in Kapaa!
Here are some ideas of places to eat, things to do and activities in the Kapaa area:
- Looking for a fun place to lounge and relax in the evening? Try the Lava Lava Beach Club in Kapaa! We love this place for many reasons: it’s beachfront you can dine with your toes in the sand, they have yummy drinks, Live music most nights, they also have a large grassy area with some outdoor games for adults and kids to play with! You can’t go wrong with Lava Lava Beach Club for a night out with the family in Kapaa.
- Rent bikes and explore the Kauai Bike Path! The path is conveniently located near our vacation rentals in the Kapaa area. This path is a great family fun activity for everyone to enjoy!
- Hike the Kuilau Ridge Trail! This hike is not too difficult and offers some beautiful views of the mountains! You can even see some waterfalls flowing! Check this hike out, be prepared to get muddy!
- Check out the 4th of July Fireworks show in Lihue! Learn more here!
North Shore
If you are staying at one of our Princeville condos, check out things to do on the North Shore! While the road past Hanalei may still be down for repairs this summer, many places are still open for business on the North Shore:
- Check out the amazing Hanalei Bread Co. in Hanalei town! They have super delicious breakfast burritos and sandwiches! We highly recommend stopping here for coffee and a bite to eat in the morning!
- You can still visit Hanalei Bay, the beaches north of the pier are still open, spots will fill up fast! Other beaches that are still open for guests to enjoy on the North Shore include Anini Beach Park, Queen’s Bath, and Secret Beach!
- There are Helicopter and Boat tours operating, as usual, this summer for guests to experience the beloved NaPali Coast! You don’t wanna miss out on this!

South Shore
If you are staying in our of our Pili Mai condos in sunny Poipu here are some ideas of things to do on the South Shore this summer:
- If you haven’t tried Da Crack, you are missing out! We think these may be the best burritos on the Island! They also have amazing tacos, definitely check them out for a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant! This is located near the yellow Seasport Divers submarine in Poipu, you can’t miss it!
- Some great beaches on the South shore include Shipwrecks Beach, Poipu Beach Park and Salt Pond Beach Park!
- Hike the Maha’ulepu Heritage Trail! We highly recommend this hike, it’s not too challenging and it provides some amazing views, like the picture below!
West Side
- Don’t forget to stop at Kauai’s beloved Hanapepe town! They have an Art Night every Friday night from 5pm-9pm! Stop by and enjoy Kauai’s Biggest Little Town!
- Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Parks are a MUST! There are several hikes in these parks that are still open this summer! Like the Alakai Swamp Trail and the Awaawapuhi Trail.
- Don’t forget to stop from some World Famous JoJo’s Shave Ice, DUH!
